About Us

The Santa Barbara Council of the Navy League of the United States supports active-duty service members and their families by enhancing morale, educating the public about the importance of America’s sea services, and investing in the next generation through youth programs.

As a civilian, nonprofit organization, we operate at the local level in alignment with the Navy League’s national mission—to strengthen the bond between the military and the community through direct engagement and nonpartisan advocacy.

What We Do

Supporting Active-Duty Service Members and Their Families

We provide year-round support to active-duty personnel through:

Sponsored ship and base adoptions
Holiday outreach and welcome-home events
Recognition programs for outstanding service members
Ongoing engagement with nine adopted units across all five military branches—including the USS Santa Barbara, Vandenberg Space Force Base, and USCGC Blackfin

Educating The Public

We raise awareness about the vital role of the sea services—Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine—by:

Hosting community tours, guest speaker events, and educational programs
Promoting maritime history and naval heritage
Supporting national initiatives that highlight the strategic value of sea power

Advocating For Strong Sea Services

We support the Navy League’s mission to advocate for robust sea services by:

Engaging with local and national policymakers
Promoting adequate funding and policy support for maritime readiness
Serving as a trusted civilian voice in defense of national security and global maritime presence
